Why?

While Sinhala social media features a rich selection of current affairs podcasts and opinion shows, Sri Lanka currently lacks a consistent, multi-day-a-week English platform covering key national issues.

IN CONVERSATION WITH VIRESH PODCAST aims to bridge this information gap. 

• The Problem: An estimated 2 to 5 million English-literate Sri Lankans face a shortage of consistent, neutral, and in-depth coverage regarding government policy, business, law, digitization, and civil society. Legacy media often reprints press releases, while local Sinhala programs primarily offer opinion-driven content. 

• The Solution: Hosted by Viresh Fernando, the show offers a non-partisan, 45–55 minute interview format focused strictly on non-partisan and objective questioning rather than personal commentary. 

• Frequency & Delivery: Airing 3 days a week initially with plans to expand to 5 days weekly on a dedicated video channel. It will feature AI-generated Sinhala and Tamil translations to reach a broader audience. 

• Guests & Audience: Features diverse voices including ministers, opposition members, business leaders, academics, and journalists. Designed for a wide spectrum of viewers—from students and young entrepreneurs to policymakers, businesspeople, professionals, investors, and the diplomatic corps. 

Who?

Podcast Host Viresh is beneficiary of various social welfare programs in Sri Lanka including Universal Free Healthcare, Universal Free Education, Subsidized Food and Subsidized Transportation.
After finishing his secondary education in Sri Lanka, Viresh obtained his first degree in economics from the University of Rochester, Rochester, New York.
Viresh trained and practiced as a Charted Accountant in Toronto, Ontario.
Viresh studied Law at McGill University in Montreal, Quebec, specializing in Constitutional Law, Human Rights Law, Administrative Law and Feminist Legal Theory.
