Opening Identity Questions which are Universal and Neutral

  • “For viewers who may be meeting you for the first time, how would you describe your professional journey so far?” 

“What experiences shaped the way you approach your work today?”

  • Early influences — “Who or what were the major influences that guided you into this field?”

“How do those influences still show up in your work?”

  • Current role — “How would you describe your current responsibilities to someone outside your sector?”

“What part of your role do people most often misunderstand?”

  • Motivation — “What motivates you to continue doing this work at this moment in Sri Lanka’s trajectory?” 

 “Has that motivation changed over time?”

  • Entry to podcast — “What made you decide to join this conversation today?” “What do you hope viewers take away from hearing you?”

Transition Questions (Move from Personal to Topic)

  • Topic relevance — “From your vantage point, why is this topic important right now? “What aspects of it do you feel are least understood?”
  • Role in issue — “Where does your work intersect with this issue?”  “What part of that intersection do you think deserves more public attention?”
  • Information gaps — “What do people most often get wrong or overlook when discussing this subject?”  “What would help them understand it more clearly?”

Neutral Deep‑Dive Questions 

  • Process explanation — “Can you walk us through how this process actually works, step by step?” “Where do the biggest bottlenecks or complexities tend to arise?”
  • Decision factors — “What are the main factors that shape decisions in this area?” “Which of those factors do people rarely talk about?”
  • Stakeholder roles — “Who are the key stakeholders involved, and how do their roles differ?” “Where do those roles align or diverge?”
  • Evidence & data — “What data or evidence informs your perspective on this?” “How often is that data updated, and what should viewers know about its limitations?”
  • Implementation reality — “In practical terms, what does implementation look like on the ground?”  “What tends to go differently in practice compared to theory?”
  • Public impact — “How does this issue affect everyday people in Sri Lanka?” “Which groups feel the impact first or most strongly?”
  • Comparative insight — “Are there examples—local or international—that help illustrate how this works elsewhere?” “What makes Sri Lanka’s context similar or different?”
